Future Regrets
04:28
|
|||
Love can make a bed out of a rock
By a stream coming down from the mountain top
Under bright of blue and shade of green
We’ll kill the two and live between
Best and worst thing that we ever do
Is the way that just get used to
When something feels too right for too long
We will find a way to make it wrong
But when its gone
What takes that place?
I’m not even a shell
I’m that hollowed out space
You traded in
future regrets
for a now
you haven’t even got a hold of yet
Oh familiar life let me back in
Oh familiar life let me back in
And by that I mean the haze
Where I don’t care either way

The Void
01:55
|
|||
From under
The willow shade
Comes the dream of
The sun’s warm rays
All the wildflowers
Living in greenhouses
It started today
That everything weight
In one sun ray
Took me back to when I was young
Afraid to close eyes when it lets in the black
But I still can’t realise
That void is mine

Shifting Backward
02:15
|
|||
I see you shifting backwards in your place
Should we separate before we drift apart?
Either way
There was pain
But I see our pain like a bruise under your nail
We could watch it grow out and just start again
Either way
There was pain
Either way
There’s change
Either way
There was pain
Either way
There’s change

River and Bridge
03:38
|
|||
When I was alone
I saw two skies
Smelt like myself
And forgot the time
With the wind making circles
That we don’t see
Until it meets up
With a pile of dead leaves
I was a hiker
Around lake and the ridge
I wanted to be your
River and bridge
But now city and sirens
Walls closer in
I wanna be your
Returning friend
Brilliant sunlight
Birds fly above
Tracing their movements
While making my own
Then, almost falling
From such a height
Body Electric
Made up of light
I stared at the moon
long enough
To see it bleeding
Colour and lust
But framed like a picture
It makes no sense
You have to step out
From behind the lens

Futureproof
04:40
|
|||
You never really touch anything
The distance of delivery
Between the thought and the word
Between what’s meant and what’s heard
Futureproof
Is what we are in me and you
But now we broke the spell
Our history is up for sale
Life is something happening somewhere else
And I just stumbled into myself
A tumbleweed magazine
Just rolling down the street
Futureproof
Is what we are in me and you
But now we broke the spell
Our history is up for sale

Sinking Feeling
03:23
|
|||
After we talked about divorce
I put down the phone
And washed up all the dishes
With a sinking feeling
Mechanically, I ate some left over cake
I replied to my brother
Something about the beach?
With a sinking feeling
When it comes to thinking about this, I never stop
So there’s nothing they can say to me I haven’t already thought
So there’s nothing left to do but wallow and stew
Nothing anybody’s done but I blame it on you
Now I feel helpless like a kid
I look around the room
At all the objects that remind me of me
With a sinking feeling

Private Sunset
02:46
|
|||
Moving away
Swimming out into the grey
Sea, sky, horizon
It’s all the same
On a day like today
I saw you in your green swimming cap
Thought you were going away
But you were going back
I suppose it is what it is
To each his own private sunset
The page is a cage
The pen is a knife
Lets go outside
Where we’re alive
And we
Don’t need
To try

The Wild
03:51
|
|||
We dance and bow
With haircuts and clothes
Muffling snarls
Betraying our bones
And the wild whispers your name
The one it gave you when you came
The wild whispers your name
In restaurants and cars
The closet silverbacks
When its a question of need
Then you’ll see their teeth
And the wild whispers your name
The one it gave you when you came
The wild whispers your name
We always forgive ourselves
We always forgive
We’re like Jesus with ourselves
And the wild whispers your name
The one it gave you when you came
The wild whispers your name

Little By Little
05:11
|
|||
I read the news on Sunday morning
From the other side of the world
A bookcase full of made up stories
A magpie sings and I’m 8 again
In my grandparents’ back yard
A rusty fence, morning mist
(I thought it backed onto a forest)
With the sun thoughtlessly reaching through the leaves
Bravely we’ll find our own ways through time
Until it lets us go
Bravely we’ll find our own ways through time
Until it lets us go
I pictured myself searching through there
If I could only find my way in
I’d take the dog and let him lead me
Instinct simple on the spongy earth
Its infinite corners, Its circle story
I’ll never get lost if there’s no map
But now I go back there it’s just a paddock with a couple of trees
Little by little I’ll waste my days
Until I’m finally free of them
Little by little I’ll waste my days
Until I’m finally free of them
There are some things I don’t like to say
They get their power when spoken aloud
It’s a complicated story
How the simple things get left behind
But as your eyes do some growing
And forest becomes a few trees
The only ones with simple lives are
The ones who learned how to close their eyes

One Word
06:16
|
|||
If there was one word
A simple word
To explain it all
It would reveal none
Because talking is like shooting an arrow
And painting a circle around whatever it hits
But I’ll keep talking and listening anyway
Because it helps me to fill up my days
If there was one word
A simple word
To explain it all
It would reveal none
And what good is knowing the answer
If we never understood the question
No matter how we try
We can never see from behind someone else’s eyes
If there was one word
A simple word
To explain it all
It would reveal none
