Choice
03:43
|

I choose my cares, I choose
And when my cares are born
I watch them grow
but soon forget where they came from
But, I know
I choose my sight, I choose
And when my sight is seen
I live the picture
But forget it came from me
But, I know
And then the line you drew
Is just a line you drew
Nothing to stand upon
Nor to hold on to
I catch myself, I catch
And when I think I'm caught
I give myself the key
I show myself the door
But, I know

I got a camera from my friend
He said "it's a good one for what I paid"
I said "what'd ya pay?"
He said "nothing, but it's a good one for what it is"
I said "isn't everything, anyway?"
He said, "that's true, for what that's worth"
Then I took some pictures
of light in the afternoon, bright and warm
I got a bicycle from a man
He said, "It's a good one for what it is"
I said, "I'll take it anyway"
And I ride it round from here to there
and sometimes somewhere else
before I'm back again
But I'm always back again
Cause I ride with Phoebe
And we feel the cool air on our faces.
So with the camera from my friend
I could take some photos of life before it ends
But I don't think I care
Cause livin for (or in) memories
Is like planting roots from a dead tree
And hoping for eternal spring.

Colour Wheel of Days
02:54
|
|||
Rain on my page
As I'm sat upon a brick skeleton house by the track
That sinks between the olive trees
The wind on the sea
Is a living shadow wandering
Light as it goes, a robin's footprint in the snow
The sea is to mist, mist to cloud and cloud to rain
Like longing to love
And lives in love to do the same
A break in the clouds sets a spotlight of the sun
on a mountain side
That's up behind the hill I just climbed
To see the colour wheel of days
Paint the panels just to watch them fade
Sign of the cross
At every church of orthodox
A straight line to god, bisected by the greed for life
And so it goes
The head upon the shoulder knows
That to console is holier than letting go.

Veins
02:47
|
|||
Hollow words inside your belly
Starting to eat you away
So by the time I get to see ya
You're just a dusty cloudy haze
Moving toward to meet me
With a graceful sweep
Never again to touch the ground
With your human feet
Mosquitoes buzzing round your ears
And your whisper of a pulse
The rhythm of a siren song
Your veins singing to their souls
Then they'll take you in the air
Off to Africa, your blood
But does it feel like a part of you
Is going home?
Hollow words inside your belly
And all your blood over the sea
Means when I finally get to see ya
Your just a dusty cloudy haze
Floatin toward to meet me
With a graceful sweep
Never again to touch the ground
With your human feet.

The Repetition
04:00
|
|||
First we walk out upon the branches
Branches then wrapped in vines
The vines'll bind anything in their way
Like I undo everything in sight
Underneath it all the river flows
No matter which way the wind blows
The fire comes up upon a clearing
All the raging thirst with nothing to burn
Spark to ash every destined death
Started with one new born breath
Over everything that breath goes
No matter which way you steer your boat
I'm not afraid to row in circles here
I'm not afraid to let it all go by
While the wind sets out across the river
With new vigour
Every day
Underneath it all the river flows
No matter which way the wind blows
Underneath it all the river flows
And if you stood still you might one day know.

Always Almost
03:53
|
|||
Where are you gonna go
When they cancel your show
When your brother's friends don't like him any more?
What are you gonna do
When they throw you a bone
With a string attached to it and a neon sign?
Just hope that you go blind
Nostalgia in reverse
When the memory comes first
And you say, "one day I'm gonna look back on this"
With pictures and thoughts
You map your vacillated course
And connect the pointless points to the empty years
And say, "SEE, I WAS HERE!"
What are you gonna do
When they don't run to you
Sayin "hey we'll never make it if you don't come to"
You need somethin to say
I should be living it THIS way
And it all comes down to this one simple idea
That I always almost hear
What makes you feel just like
You have some reason to be alive?
Well if death's the door, I'm waiting to be born
if death's the door, I'm waiting to be born
if death's the door, I'm waiting to be born
if death's the door, I'm waiting to be born

Aviary
04:07
|
|||
Vines, with flowers on the end
Your slender arms and hands
The sun and wind recreate
The movements you make from here
You smell like sweet earth and hay
It takes wings to explain
A bird in love with a cage
I'll sing and swing in our aviary
Akin, my brother moth ascends
Golden haze on the western range
Between the burning and the flame
All the dressed up doorways
I'll sing and swing in our aviary
|
||||
8. |
||||
Eyes half closed
In the half light
You were crying in the space between
And the birds were singing it on to me
I could see your face
And with that sight
My chest raised
And distance died
I'm a burning flower
A clearing cloud
And I'm drifting in the space between
Our skin and what we've been
I could see your face
And a golden light
On a torn page
Of yesterday's fate
I could see your face
And with that sight
My chest raised
And distance died
|
||||
9. |
||||
For every corner
There are two sides
Not every cornered animal will fight
Not every dear goes blind in the headlights
We are the son of our severed skin
We are the daughter of our distant union
From the river to the sea all things reach
For something to hold, a centrepoint, a sun
So you hung that orange in the window
So I'd know which one to walk into
For every lover, a seed
Of generousity and greed
But from the river to the sea the wind did say
The smaller your boat, the less you'll need
So you hung that orange in the window
So I'd know which one to walk into
